The NBA Selection (Smart All-Stars) had a slam dunk exhibition which delighted the jam-packed crowd at the Smart Araneta Coliseum as Kobe Bryant’s team defeated the PBA All-Stars, 131-105. Slam Dunk Runner-up Javale McGee led the NBA stars with 25 points, mostly on high-flying dunks, while Kevin Durant scored 22 points on a combination of dunks and three-point jumpers.

Arwind Santos scored the 1st 2 points of the game on a slam dunk and led the PBA All-Stars with 25 points but no other PBA star scored in double-figures. B-Meg Llamados players Marc Pingris scored 9 points but MVP James Yap was scoreless.

Let us all thank Manny Pangilinan for making this event possible. Smart Gilas vs NBA Selection at 1pm, today, July 24 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Roger Yap and James Yap combined for 30 points as Purefoods TJ Giants beats Smart Gilas, 99-81 in the last exhibition match for the Smart Gilas Philippine Developmental Team before they head to the middle east for some tune-up games. Purefoods led from start to finish using a balanced attack with Adducul and Canaleta both having 11 points while seldom used Jonathan Fernandez contributing 9 points and leading Rookie of the year candidate Rico Maierhofer with 8 points.

Team Captain Chris Tiu led Smart Gilas with 18 points, while No. 1 pick Japeth Aguilar who just recovered from dengue last December contributing 12 points. It was the second meeting between the No. 1 and No. 2 pick of last years draft, both games won by Maierhofer. In their first meeting, Aguilar was still wearing a Burger King uniform before he was traded to Talk N Text and transferred to Smart Gilas. This was also a match between the Gregorio brothers Ryan (Purefoods Head Coach) and Allan (Smart Gilas Assistant Coach).
