There will be a Victory Party for Purefoods Fans tomorrow 5pm at San Miguel Compound, Ortigas, Pasig City. The party is by invitation only and you will need tickets to enter and join the celebration.

Purefoods Basketball has two (2) tickets up for grabs, just answer this question: “Why are you a Fan of Purefoods?”

A few only noticed but James Yap had to endure a sore back in the recent PBA Philippine Cup, despite the nagging injury, James Yap still led Purefoods TJ Giants to another All-Filipino Championship and won the Best Player of the Conference award and Finals MVP. Yap has a minor scoliosis problem and intends to have a rehabilitation procedure before the 2010 Fiesta Conference.

Purefoods or now Derby Ace is looking for a season sweep in the coming Fiesta Conference, and James hopes to lead Purefoods again and this also might boost his chances in winning the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. But as of now, James has his sights in improving his defense in the next conference. James Yap averaged 17.5 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists in the recent PBA Philippine Cup.

We just confirmed from the Purefoods/Derby Ace Coaching Staff that they have not yet finalized an Import for the upcoming PBA Fiesta Conference which starts March 21, but Purefoods/Derby Ace will have their first game after holy week so they still have enough time to practice with their import. Will post an announcement if an import is already final and is practicing with the team.

Purefoods TJ Giants will now be called the Derby Ace Llamados in the 2010 Fiesta Conference starting March 21. This change was to promote the Animal Feeds Product of San Miguel Corp for 1 conference only. Purefoods or Derby Ace might have Reggie Larry as Import in the next conference.

There is still no logo for the new name but here’s the logo of the product:

Purefoods TJ Giants made a rare sweep of the PBA Finals against Alaska Aces 86-76, winning the Philippine Cup Finals and once again All-Filipino champions for the fifth time for Purefoods and Second for Coach Ryan Gregorio. Purefoods winning 7 straight games including 3 straight in the semifinals against San Miguel and played in 30 games overall in this conference.

Purefoods led most of the game but Alaska came back at the end of the 1st half to tie the game. Rookie Rico Maierhofer who scored 12 points waxed hot in the third quarter to extend the lead of Purefoods 65-58 to end the 3rd quarter. Finals MVP James Yap led Purefoods with 18 pts and 3 asts and Roger Yap contributed 16pts, 9rebs and 6asts and both made big shots in the 4th quarter to stop the run by Alaska led by Willie Miller.

James Yap was named Best Player of the Conference before the start of Game 4, breaking the jinx of the last 4 Best Players of the Conference where the day they were announced winners of the award they lost that game. In getting his finals MVP award, James Yap thanked his no. 1 fan, former President Cory Aquino who passed away last year.
