Even without MVP James Yap, who sat out of this game due to a calf injury, B-Meg almost defeated the Meralco Bolts again but came up short in the end game as they suffered their second straight setback and now at the bottom half of the standings with 2 wins and 4 losses.
Derby Ace had a chance to get the lead with 26 seconds left and Meralco leading by 1, 87-86, but Kerby Raymundo in just his second game back from an injury missed a shot and Mac Cardona sealed the win for the Bolts with 2 free throws.
Peter June Simon led the Llamados with 17 points and 3 rebounds while Marc Pingris contributed a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Nino “KG” Canaleta had a big 4th quarter with 10 points (3 three point shots) but was neutralized by Meralco Import Champ Oguchi who made 4 three pointers in the 4th quarter which includes the shot that gave the Bolts the lead, 87-86.
It was the first time that Meralco won against Derby Ace since getting the Sta. Lucia franchise and the 1st win by Meralco head coach Ryan Gregorio against his former team.
