B-Meg defeats Air 21, advances to the next round

Philippine Basketball Association 36th Season
2011 Governors Cup
B-Meg Llamados vs Air 21 Express
B-Meg defeats Air 21, 111-89

Darnell Hinson led B-Meg in the next round by scoring 31 points (10/20 from the field) along with 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals in his farewell game for the Llamados. Hinson will fly back to the US to attend a hearing custody of his daughter and B-Meg has already scouted a replacement just in case Hinson won’t be back for the PBA Governors Cup semifinals.

Joe Devance was named Best Player of the Game with 23 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 blocks in his 8th game for the Llamados. The duo of James Yap and Peter June Simon combined for 27 points while Marc Pingris almost had a double-double with 11 points and 9 rebounds. Rafi Reavis in just his 4th game back from an injury grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds and also scored 8 points.

With the win, B-Meg has now 4 wins and superior quotient over Meralco and Powerade, thus completing the 6-team semifinals (Petron, TNT, ROS, Ginebra, Alaska and B-Meg) where there will be a single round robin (games in the elimination round are carried over). If a team wins 4 out of 5 semifinal games, they earn a playoff incentive for a finals berth even if they are below the standings. The top two teams after the semifinals or the winner of the playoff incentive will advance to the best-of-seven finals.

Kerby Raymundo may still play this conference but it will be at the latter part if B-Meg advances in the next round. While Petron will be missing Jay Washington.

B-Meg Llamados vs Talk N Text Tropang Texters
B-Meg defeats Talk N Text, 111-105

Darnell Hinson scored 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in his debut for B-Meg but it was the steady shooting of James Yap with 32 points (12/21 from the field) and the rebounding of Marc Pingris (12 rebounds) and Joe Devance (17 rebounds) who helped give Talk N Text their first defeat in the PBA Governors Cup.

The Llamados trailed in the 1st half because of turnovers (15 in the 1st half) but came back in the second half and notched their second straight win and now with 3 wins and 2 losses.

4 players in Talk N Text scored 20 or more points but most of those points came in the 1st half where Talk N Text controlled the tempo of the game.

Next Game: B-Meg vs TNT in Dubai

B-Meg Llamados vs Talk N Text Tropang Texters
Thursday, June 30, 7pm, Dubai, UAE

Current Standing:
B-Meg Llamados: 2 wins, 2 losses (tied for 4th place)
Talk N Text Tropang Texters: 3 wins, 0 losses (1st place)

Import Matchup:
Darnell Hinson vs Maurice Baker, Baker has been solid for TNT and led the team to 3 wins and we still do not know how Hinson will gel with the team.

Prediction:
Rafi Reavis will play for the 1st time this conference and will surely be a big help in stopping the penetration of Talk N Text. James Yap and Joe Devance will continue to play well for the Llamados. Since this is the first time that Darnell Hinson will play, I believe he will outplay Baker and lead the team to a 2 point win over Talk N Text.
