Spears out, Beasley In

Even though Shamari Spears led Derby Ace to a win versus Smart Gilas, the Llamados have decided to replace Spears with 6’2 Guard Courtney Beasley against San Miguel Beermen tomorrow, Sunday, March 27 6:30pm at the Big Dome.

Derby Ace defeats Smart Gilas in overtime, 98-90

Shamari Spears led Derby Ace in scoring with 26 points in what could be his last game as B-Meg handed Smart Gilas Pilipinas its first loss in the PBA Commissioners Cup, 98-90. Peter June Simon and Marc Pingris both had great games with PJ contributing 20 points and 9 rebounds and Pingris grabbing 19 rebounds and scoring 18 points.

Kerby Raymundo had a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds together with 2 assists and 2 steals while Nino “KG” Canaleta who made a crucial 3 pointer in the last 2 minutes of the game scored 13 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.

Mac Baracael led Smart Gilas with 19 points but missed 6-10 Marcus Douthit in the 4th period after sustaining a sprained ankle in the 3rd quarter, which resulted in the 70-49 edge in rebounding by the Llamados.

James Yap, Don Allado, Rico Maierhofer, Rafi Reavis and Jonas Villanueva did not play due to injuries.

Derby Ace retains Spears, Raymundo back in action

B-Meg Derby Ace Llamados will try to win their 3rd straight game today at 4pm versus Alaska at the Big Dome. Derby Ace import Shamari Spears has kept his job for now while Kerby Raymundo will be back in action today after a long rehab of his injury and will wear jersey #35.

Powerade defeats Derby Ace 103-96

New Import, same results for B-Meg Derby Ace Llamados as they lost to Powerade Tigers in Lanao del Norte, 103-96. It was the 2nd straight loss for the Llamados to start the 2011 PBA Philippine Cup.

New Derby Ace Import Shamari Spears led B-Meg with 22 points but was mostly ineffective offensively and defensively as Tigers Import Russel Carter outplayed him scoring 36 points and contributing 19 rebounds and 6 assists.

Nino “KG” Canaleta led the locals with 16 points. It was actually a close game in the 1st half until Powerade pulled away in the 3rd quarter scoring 38 points with Derby Ace scoring only 19.

Only the Derby Ace guards contributed well with James Yap, Peter June Simon, Jonas Villanueva and Roger Yap scoring in double figures but the big men combined could only contribute 4 points.

Another bad news for the Llamados, Rico Maierhofer had a hyper-extended left knee and will be out indefinitely. But the good news is Rafi Reavis and Kerby Raymundo will be back soon.

Derby Ace 1st game tonight, Robert Brown stays for Now

B-Meg Derby Ace Llamados will face Rain or Shine with their new coach, Yeng Guaio and minus JR Reyes and Sol Mercado who was traded to different teams. Game time will be at 7:30pm at the Cuneta Astrodome.

Although new Import Shamari Spears has passed the height limit, B-Meg will use Robert Brown in the game tonight and will keep Spears as a replacement if Brown does not play well tonight.
