James Yap wearing yellow rubber shoes led Derby Ace Llamados with 21 points to a win over Sta. Lucia Realtors, 73-66 and is now tied again for third place with Barangay Ginebra with an 8 win,5 loss standing. But it was the other Derby Ace player from UE, Paul Artadi who was named best player due to his all-around play contributing 18pts, 6rebs, 5asts and 3 stls.

It was a blow-out game in the 1st half as Derby Ace held Sta Lucia to only 30 points in the 1st 2 quarters while scoring Derby Ace scored 45 points, but Sta. Lucia kept fighting until the end of the 4th quarter but time ran out and the defense of Derby Ace held on.

Derby Ace Llamados hopes to bounce back from a heartbreaking loss vs Alaska last Friday. Derby Ace will meet Sta Lucia on Wednesday, June 2, game time will be at 7:30pm at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.

Their first matchup this 2010 PBA Fiesta Conference was last April 7 and Derby Ace defeated Sta. Lucia Realtors 86-79, that was almost 2 months ago and a lot has changed since, Derby Ace has a new Import in Clif Brown and Sta. Lucia made some key trades losing Kelly Williams and Ryan Reyes. But Derby Ace should not take Sta. Lucia lightly and hope to be back at 3rd place should they win with an 8 win and 5 loss record behind 2nd place Talk N Text and 1st place San Miguel.

After a long break for B-Meg Derby Ace Llamados (former Purefoods TJ Giants), the team showed that they still have the defensive intensity that made them Philippine Cup champions by beating Sta Lucia Realtors 86-79.

Nino Canaleta led Derby Ace with 18pts and 5 rebs on 7/13 from the field, filling in for injured Kerby Raymundo (Knee injury), James Yap also had 18 points and contributed 4 rebs and 3 asts. Derby Ace Import Lorrenzo Wade did not dominate the game but had a decent debut with 20 pts and 10 rebs, but had 6 turnovers and was in foul trouble with Derby Ace going All-Filipino in some stretches of the game, Wade scoring inside and out had a couple of 3 point shots and dunks in the game.

Sta Lucia Import Anthony Johnson led the Realtors with 26pts and 9rebs. The game could have been different with Sta Lucia missing 17 free throws in the game with Kelly Williams going 5/14 from the free throw line.

It was a nice present for birthday boy, Coach Ryan Gregorio who hopes to capture back-to-back crowns in the PBA this conference. Next game will be Air 21 Express on Friday, April 9, 7:30pm at the Cuneta Astrodome.

Purefoods Tender Juicy Giants gained an outright entry in the Quarterfinals by beating the Sta. Lucia Realtors, 88-78. This is the 4th straight win for Purefoods ending the Elimination phase with a 12-6 record. James Yap led Purefoods again with 19 points but it was the steady play of Nino Canaleta with 17 points and defense and rebounding of Marc Pingris with 11 points and 15 rebounds which made the difference in stoping the Realtors.

With the win, Purefoods is now waiting for the winner of the Wild Card Phase, which will be played by Sta Lucia, Rain or Shine, Burger King and Coke.

At the Robert Z. Barbers Memorial Sports Complex in Surigao del Norte, Purefoods TJ Giants nearly lost this game to the Sta. Lucia Realtors, with Purefoods leading by 18 points midway in the 4th quarter, Sta lucia led by Williams and Urbiztondo staged a rally to cut the lead of Purefoods but time was not on their side as Purefoods takes this game 68-63.

Team Captain Kerby Raymundo led Purefoods with 15 points but  James Yap was held to only 7 points, while playing with a sore knee. It was a low scoring ballgame but Purefoods had a balanced scoring with Paul Artadi and Roger Yap, contributing 10 points each while Peter June Simon and Marc Pingris both scored 9 points. Rookie Rico Maierhofer was held to only 2 point in Purefoods last 2 games.

Purefoods still has not won back to back games this Philippine Cup but has not lost back to back either, Coach Ryan Gregorio hopes to beat that pattern in their next game vs Coca Cola Tigers on Dec. 2.
